Eye examinations
An optometrist, or doctor of optometry is a health professional who is trained to examine, diagnose, treat, and prevent diseases and disorders of the eyes and visual system. Allow our doctors of optometry to be your first choice when it comes to taking good care of your eyes because we specialize in managing every aspect of your eye health. Good vision depends on good eye health and overall health.
Regular eye examinations can ensure that we detect signs of eye disease in its earliest stage. Eye examinations can also provide a picture of your overall health, even detecting early warning signs of diabetes, high blood pressure and tumors.
Our commitment to our patients is to provide the most thorough and complete eye care in a friendly environment, including:
Third Party Direct Billing is now available for most providers, including Alberta Blue Cross, Great West Life and Sun Life insurance. Electronic submission and confirmation of coverage can be done in office. Please note that some insurance plans still require longer processing times or receipt submission for reimbursement.
Children and vision
The Alberta Association of Optometrists reports that 1 in 4 school aged children has a vision problem and often these vision problems are difficult to detect without an eye exam. Comprehensive eye examinations from one of our doctors of optometry is covered by Alberta Health up until the age of 19. Our doctors recommend children have an exam at least once before the age of 3, once between the ages of 3 and 5, and every year thereafter.
Children with vision problems can often go undiagnosed, and the earlier an eye health or visual problem is identified the more likely it can be corrected.

Technology
High resolution digital photography of the inside of the eye is included in every adult comprehensive eye examination. Part of our standard of care for monitoring ocular health conditions and educating our patients.
Analogous to ultrasound, except utilizing light waves, this imaging allows for visualization of the deep internal anatomy of the eye, including the vitreous, layers of the retina and the choroid. Critical for detection and management of ocular diseases such as glaucoma and macular degeneration.
Wide field scanning laser technology that supports our doctors of optometry in the diagnosis and documentation of eye complications that may present in the periphery of the eye. Through an un-dilated pupil, this specialized retinal imaging can reveal areas of the eye that otherwise cannot be viewed using traditional methods and equipment.
